... or, the vintage virgin

as you may recall, about a month ago i flew over to london for a few days.  while there, i was hell-bent on visiting some shops specialising in vintage clothing.
i wanted to do this mostly because i wanted to change my opinion about vintage shopping.  i'm not 100% sure i managed, to be quite honest, as i have yet to make my first vintage purchase.  until that day, my only experience of vintage shopping was visiting the occasional parish hall bazaar back in malta, and i suspect that may have tarnished my judgement for good. after having read quite a bit about vintage shopping abroad, and lusting after celebrities' unique outfits and reading that they would be vintage, i thought i should or at least try dipping my toes into the whole experience.

confession #000066

... or, anticipation is a b*tch

much as i love, love, love (did i say i love?) online shopping, the anticipation of waiting for that darn parcel is something i can't quite get my head round.  case in point: this pinafore dress and bowler hat from boohoo and the shirt from the kooples.

anticipation is a b*tch

the dress and hat are on their way, i know. i'm tracking the parcel every other hour  the shirt is still en cours de préparation.  oh the anxiety, the anticipation, the suspense... as trivial and shallow as this post is, for someone whose only missing virtue (ahemm...) is patience, those days 'in transit' always seem like an eternity.

give me some love if you agree, come on x

... or, how not to get lost in the sales

as opposed to banksy's 'sale ends today' piece, sales have just about started or are about to start.  from one shopaholic to another, let's face it, it's easy to get lost in the sales - losing not only track of which store you are in amidst the confusion, but also of your spending ability.  i've spent many a day rummaging in unkempt rails in stores, elbowing my way to get that item i'd been coveting, and queueing up to walk into stores, only to walk out empty handed some of the times.

... or, the miracle makers

on a good day, this is what i wake up to (well, first i would have to get my coffee done, but anyway!)

the point is, i am, by far, the worst sleeper ever.  anyone who has ever shared a bedroom with me will confirm that.  it takes me forever to fall asleep and then, as soon as i wake up - which is generally at day-break, before my alarm goes off - i expect the world to wake up with me.  i don't know how to sleep unless it's pitch dark, i'm in a bed and it's eerily quiet.  sometimes i don't even manage that, as i tend to spook myself when it's just so quiet i can hear the neighbour's heartbeats.  i can't sleep at the beach or on a plane and it generally takes me a couple of nights to get accustomed to a 'foreign' bed.  so most times, i return home from trips abroad having hardly clocked 8 hours of sleep over two nights.

... or, the heat is on

it bloody well is.  i've heard that in malta temperatures are already hitting the 30+ mark on the celsius gauge and unexpectedly enough, the heat is not shying away here in krakow either.

while i am, well used to be, a sun workshipper, the sun - and the heat - just don't like me that much.  as i mentioned in an earlier post, my skin is rather oily and despite being close to the mid-30s *shock shock horror horror*, i have still not started using any anti-ageing creams because i've still got adolescents' problems to deal with: open pores, acne scars, break outs, the more the merrier on some days.  finding the right products to handle my skin issues and the excess heat is a feat.

...or, shopping just got a whole lot better!

as you may have noticed from the badges at the side of this blog, i am part of the etailpr bloggers network through which i can promote both established and upcoming fashion brands treating my readers to the occasional giveaway or discount.  in the last days, etailpr has launched a competition for bloggers in conjunction with asos and shopcade.  if you are a blogger, what are you waiting for? check out the competition here, like, now!

if you're not a blogger, fret not my dear friend.  what i bring to you is something astounding.  i've only recently joined shopcade and, well, i am hooked.

shopcade lets you browse products ranging from fashion items, tech stuff, media, food, you name it, it's there.  whenever you like an item, you can place it in a list such as i did with the shopcade 'gifts i want' which you can see below.

... or, when the going gets tough, the tough go shopping

today i decided i shall treat myself to the afternoon.  afternoons tend to be a rather elusive thing for me because of work commitments.  not that i'm complaining, mind you. i love my job and what i get to experience through it.  but sometimes, you just need that afternoon for yourself.

and today i did just that.  since i could technically clock off at 13h30, i did pretty much just that and headed over to galeria krakowska.  if i were in malta right now, i'd probably have headed to the beach, but either way, i would still end up doing the same thing, i.e. shopping!

... or, strawberry fields forever
this morning started off in one of the most idyllic ways, at least for the city girl that i am.  freshly faced and clad in my rather bourgeois fred perry stripes, ankle-grazing skinnys and ballerinas, i hopped over to the farmer's market which is actually just round the corner from our apartment in krakow.  the 10 minute trip put me in a good mood and i figure i should adopt this as a bit of a habit ... though getting this done before the 07:30 start of work day schedule may seem a bit gruelling ...

... or, in praise of dresses

it is a truth universally acknowledged that "a woman can never have enough shoes". while i won't even go anywhere near disputing this fact, because it is, indeed, an indisputable fact, i shall add my little twist to it:

a woman can never have enough shoes, or dresses

when art and fashion collide

following yesterday's post on the roy lichtenstein retrospective, and an afternoon spent watching various documentaries on my favourite artists, this morning i woke up inspired to bring art and fashion together in these polyvore sets.  fashion, after all, is an art form.  and style is the artistic way in which one expresses their personality.

oh, jeff ... i love you too ... but... (1964)
i can't believe it's already been three weeks since i was in london, more or less round about this time - it was saturday as well - viewing the roy lichtenstein retrospective at the tate modern.  before putting fingers to keyboard, in an attempt at making sense of the notes i took post-exhibition, i wanted to find the perfect time so as not to rush it for the sake of writing.  i guess, this glorious yet lazy saturday afternoon hits the spot.

confession #000058

... or, just one of those days

this morning i woke up in one of those 'eating isn't very chanel' / 'nothing tastes as good as skinny does' kind of moods. i don't know if the (by now locally infamous) transforma advert had anything to do with it.  what with playing on my sub-conscious and all that.  it could even be the realisation of the total abandonment of any dieting effort over the last month.  my schedule has been as bad sh*t crazy as the weather here in krakow, providing me with ample excuses reasons to forego a jog for a cup of tea and a bar of chocolate.

confession #000057

... or, "i have nothing to wear"

so i finally got myself one of the celine logo t-shirts that have been making the blogger rounds all through spring.  i know, i know summer is just round the corner - at least according to the calendar - but who could blame me thinking it is still early spring when i keep finding rain, strong wind, and why not, the occasional thunderstorm wherever i go?

i bought my celine t-shirt from here and it arrived in the post while i was away.  i was obviously super-thrilled to find it in the post and add it to the london-budapest-malta haul brought back in my overweight luggage! and today, i finally get to wear it.  if i figure out what i'm going to wear it with, that is.  i have this tendency of waking up with an obsession to wear a particular item and then spend hours in front of my wardrobe trying to figure out how i'm going to style that item.  today is one of those days.

to help me in the process, i'm scouring lookbook.nu to see how other fashionistas are styling their own celine tee and playing around on polyvore.  which one of the sets in the slideshow would you go for? le me know in the comments section below!

confession #000056

today i just want to pay tribute to the women who inspire me in terms of personal style and fashion.  most of them are what would qualify as petite, i.e. below the 1.67m mark.  and as a petite woman myself (standing at a mere 1.48m - yes, not even 1.5m!), it is quite logical that i should look at how these beauties are gracing the latest trends, and working them to make the most of their more diminutive shape.

so, without any further ado, here goes my list of personal style muses:

... or, retro romance

as i wait for the antibiotics to start kicking in, i find myself drifting away in floral fancies of vintage tea-cups, crust-less cucumber sandwiches and lacy blouses with pussy-bow necklines.  i'm not sure if it's the antibiotics or the post-dentist trauma that is sending me on this trip.

i think i'm experiencing some sort of withdrawal symptom since i've recently ventured wildly into tribal, digital and geometric prints, leaving behind my vintagey and flowery comfort zone. i find it somewhat quintessentially british, and i'm kind of enjoying this mood i'm in.
